I just watched this very interesting program from the BBC’s very reputable Horizon program called “Is Alcohol worse than Ecstasy?”. They assembled a team of scientists and analyzed the top 20 dangerous drugs in a scale of their apparent overall harm.

Incredibly, Cannabis, Ecstasy and LSD were found to be less dangerous than both Tobacco and especially alcohol. They ranked Alcohol the 5th most dangerous drug, and said that without a doubt, if Alcohol only came out today – it would be instantly banned and classes as a “Class A” drug.

  1. It depends on how you are judging it, doesn’t it? What the criteria are.

Ability to cause social disruption on over-consumption, neurotoxic potential, employment disruption; which are they going by?

  2. Great post. If you wish to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone – I strongly recommend BBC Streams – it is easily the best way to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and it’s free at BBCStreams.com.
